Reflections of a geocacher

Last week I was reading the excellent UKCacheMag - subscriptions available from www.ukcachemag,com
It's a great little magazine packed full of geocaching related stories.
Inside the magazine there was an article "What is it about Geocaching that you like most?"
Well the comments that were reported echoed my own thoughts.  These included "discovering interesting areas that I never knew existed" and "finding DIY cache containers" "going to events" "going to new places and views".    It got me to reflecting on the past four and a half years of caching and all the wonderful memories that I now have, because of geocaching.
I wanted to share some of the best memories I have especially those that entail doing something I would never done if it weren't  for geocaching.

In brief some of the things I would not have done if it weren't for geocaching include - abseiling in Wales, finding a cache under a waterfall, travelling through every county in Ireland on a ten day driving tour, trying to find a cache in Enniskillen on Orange Day! I know a stupid thing to try and do.  Approaching a complete stranger and asking him to take me out on his jet ski to a geocache on a buoy out at sea.  Inching my large frame through a small hole to an underground cache.  Climbing trees. Kayaking to a cache in Chelmsford.  CITO and caching by rubber dinghy in Peterborough.  Caching in a very large forest in the dark with literally hundreds of other cachers, many of them dressed in Halloween costume. Learning local history about my own local area and other areas. Learning more and more about the names of flowers and birds. Drove across the beach at Sligo to Coney Island at low tide. Spent the day caching by day boat with 11 other friends along the River Lee.  Spent a weekend travelling from the West coast of the UK to the East coast picking up over 200 caches, with Sarah.  So many great memories I will always treasure.
