Day 2 of 31 days in August caching challenge

I've decided that as I am doing a cache a day challenge this month I might also try for the Photo a Day challenge too.  Both are pretty tricky to maintain, but I'll do my best, and log progress here.

DAY TWO

GC4CMA5
A cache and dash close to a supermarket in Basildon

Despite several opportunities for a cache and dash today, I kept forgetting to pick one up. It wasn't until 10.30pm whilst reading a find log on one of my own caches that I suddenly remembered that I had to get a cache today.   I'd had a drink, so Andy kindly offered to take me out to pick up my nearest unfound cache - seven miles away. Oh well. We wandered about until we finally worked out the way in to the small wooded area next to the supermarket.   After rummaging about a number of trees, Andy finally found the cache at 23.11 - nothing like cutting it fine!

PHOTO A DAY
Today's word is 'unfinished'  My brother James is tiling my bathroom for me. I managed to get a quick photo before he put in the last tile.

August challenges - 31 days of caching

August is an exciting month for geocaching.  Many geocachers are attempting the 31 days of caching challenge throughout the month.  For every day that you find a cache or attend an event you receive a souvenir.
The plan is to blog about my experiences as I attempt this international challenge.

DAY ONE - Thursday 1 August 2013
My caching pal happileigh aka Jill and I had agreed to meet up and go caching today.  After scanning the geocaching map for a short series not too far from home preferably with shade as it turned out to be another very hot day - 32 degrees (in the shade!).  We decided upon this one - A Hobbit's Tale - There and back again GC48W6D
There are eight caches in this series and it is along a river, so we thought it might be shady.  Unfortunately it wasn't.   The paths were reasonably okay - a little bit uneven as they were alongside the fields of ripened wheat.  And the route was only just over a mile long.   Each cache was really good and the penultimate one was brilliant so I gave a favourite point there.

We got to the last cache and struggled to find it, both being very hot and a little tired.  After much searching amongst ivy covered trees Jill finally spotted the cache nicely hidden 'at base of tree'.  Textbook stuff which really shouldn't have taken us so long to find.  So thrilled with a complete run of finds, we considered how we were going to get back to the car. Still being a bit unfit following surgery eight weeks ago I was starting to suffer with heat exhaustion and really couldn't face the mile walk back.  We tried ringing for a taxi but they wouldn't come all the way out from Chelmsford to take us round the corner.  So I rang Andy who was working in Brentwood.  He very kindly came to pick us up.  Jill was most impressed that he found us in a small country lane and that he had been such a knight in a shining Audi.   Back at my car and after a cup of tea and sitting in an air conditioned car for a while I felt much revived.  So much better that we decided to just 'get one more' cache before heading home.

All in all a great start to the August 31 days of caching challenge, but I won't be walking in 32 degree heat again!
